We can’t tell good from bad and the curators we had closed up shop or sold out to the man. So now every buddy’s putting out a new EP with promo codes for their "community" to download for free. And you got your demands but I got other plans that you don’t understand, cause now everyone just listens to their friends’ bands. We let the algorithm fill and it fucked with our free will till cool cat curiosities got killed. And though we still throw our shows the other folks are only gonna go to the birthday bashes of their bros. So you live off this land? Well I think y'all could stand to make some new and stranger fans, but now everyone just listens to their friends’ bands. You got your demands but I still got my plans, and we all had to be the front man, so now everyone just listens to their friends’ bands.

In the morning you know it comes without a single warning, and then the same thing happens in the evening. Well I suppose there’s stranger things to believe in. I guess I oughta write it down and where it goes I’ll follow. I'll follow, even if this loving word that you have heard, it doesn’t quite feel right. In other words, what you observe, it doesn’t quite feel right. Cause you ruined it. And I’ll find my own damn way down there. It’s such a lonely way down there, let me tell you, baby. In the daytime, you know I wish that it could be my playtime to relax and ready for the light that I got shining on me in the night. They say I oughta tone it down, but where it goes I’ll follow. I’ll follow all the music. I’ll use it till I lose it. I lose it, especially when this loving word that you have heard, it doesn’t quite feel right. In other words, what you deserve, it doesn’t quite feel right. Cause you ruined it. And I’ll find my own damn way down there. It’s such a lonely way down there. But you know I’ll stay down there, cause it’s my only way down there. I don’t care as long as in the morning, you know it comes without a single warning, and then the same thing happens in the evening. Well I suppose there’s stranger things to believe in, and I’m just blinded by the sound. I wanna spread it all around. I guess I oughta write it down.

When we met you showed me why you’re more of an island than I. You said “bunker is not a crime.” So we crossed the dotted line, but now we’re fighting all the time. And I don’t need to know how your day went, but it’s getting cold and we both gotta pay rent. So I wrote you a note from the basement: “we gotta work it out or it’s gonna hang around.” You've been wearing thin disguise, you’re coming as no surprise. Cause when you build a house of lies, eventually you’ll recognize you don’t sleep easier at night. You say I’m high and I’m trying your patience? Well you’re the host with the most invitations for a course in international relations. We oughta work it out. But I know what the smile on your face meant, so I suppose I should pound the pavement. Cause when you’re ghosting the notes from the basement it brings our upside down, turns it inside out. And I don’t need to know how your day went. You can stop saying I sound like Pavement, because in 30 days you can find a replacement. Just let me know apropos on the payment, and you won’t hear another note from the basement. It’s time I’m moving out, yeah I couldn’t stick around.

You don't know what I been through, you don't know where I'm going to. All you know is what you do and no one asked you. Don't need your recommendations, don't matter what you would say. If I upset expectations it's cause I want it that way. Don't need your recommendations, yeah I will be okay, okay? This ain't about fame or money, and I know now everything's free. So I'm not gonna say I'm sorry for sounding like me. Don't need your recommendations, don't matter what you would say. Though I'll accept your donations, give what you're willing to pay. Don't need your recommendations, but your patience would be okay, okay? Don't need your recommendations, weighing what might and what may. Because your preoccupations they'll only get in the way. Don't need your recommendations, just say we're all okay, okay?

Give it time, no one's losing their minds, I'm just learning your lines and you're learning mine. A little fighting is fine. How then should we be counting to ten? Can you show me again how wrong I've been my young masterful friend? You can borrow my pen. Now look what you done, you forgot what we did. We got nothing to hide but something must have got hid from the common core kids. Take it slow, I know you wanted to show all the things that you know, but there's things you won't know until you grow old. Children, do the counting again, your 2, 3, 4 comes before 8, 9, 10, but you couldn't say "when." Now look what you done, you forgot what we did. No we wouldn't abide but we were being outbid by the common core kids. The common core kids don't see the need to build another bridge. But they're gonna re-renovate all the places we played down on Avenue A, it's a shame we can't stay. It's a shame we can't stay the same. Now look what you done, you forgot what we did. We got took for a ride, but now we'll never get rid (and I don't wanna get rid) of the common core kids.

When you're bouncing around and you can't settle down you've found you have found small solace in shady shadows of doubt? Well now it's time to come out and chase all those demons down the drain, cause they ain't going away. You better recognize if we're going to progress. You better recognize your limitlessness. And if you don't free your mind of thoughts of money and time you'll find you will find your sorry self in a fiery forest of fears and worried wish you were heres careening down caverns of what could have beens. Do I gotta say it again? You better recognize if we're going to progress. You better recognize your limitlessness.

You keep jabbing about all the dues that you paid, but that's about sacrifice and you were trying to get laid. Just cause you got here before me that don't mean you can stay, wouldn't be minding your "business" if you'd take it away. See I ain't paid to play, but I was sent here. Make my rent here. Your daddy went here? Well I was sent here, I was sent here to save rock and roll. Well Father Misty's a mountain talking end of the age, while St. Vincent sells diamonds on the Mastercard stage. But while you're posing for prophets there's a war to be waged. Your nihilism ain't wisdom, it don't make you a sage. Yeah I know it's all the rage, but maybe you should be saved. And I was sent here to do what I'm meant here. Sinners repent here! Cause I was sent here, I was sent here to save rock and roll. And I was sent here to make my dent here. Get your sacraments here! Cause I was sent here, I was sent here to save rock and roll.

Everybody's talkin' about her, still she's wondering if she needs to be louder. And you've seen her before so it seems like you met her, but that was just another Jenni endeavor. Well I had to inquire though I ain't much of a talker, cause I was starting a band and I needed a basement walker. But she's got four brick walls and a chimney around her, so I went back to my room and I wrote this song about her. Cause it was just another Jenni endeavor to steal their hearts and minds if they let her. She says that we're all in it together but it was just another Jenni endeavor. The other men, they told her lies about distressed damsels and white knights? Well, alright! She says she hopes we can be allies, but she don't wanna start another tribe. So now everybody's in our own echo chamber and there's no one to blame except the government paper. And all our radical socialist thoughts are unfettered while we watch it unravel like an undone sweater. It'll be just another Jenni endeavor, a concept record with her at the center. But I think we should all be in it together instead of just another Jenni endeavor.

Well I must be on my way now. I ain't got the future figured out. So long ago I wrote it down, then time tore all the pages out. And the thrill is gone, still I'm moving on. And I'll miss this town, but breaking out is better than hanging around. So I'm wandering on the way now. Don't you ask me how I'm making out. Cause this place it ain't too safe for sound, and the foulest plays have turned about. But I'll write these wrongs into another song. Yeah I've been shut down, but playing out is better than hanging around. So I'll set my sights on finding work tonight. I might be shot down, but burning out, flaming out, playing out and breaking down is better than hanging around.

Tuesday nights at the local dive is the time our hero comes alive. The mild malaise of a ho hum day starts fading away when he takes to the stage. The karaoke legend, they'll never forget him, belts it out like he's some kind of game show contestant. The karaoke legend's got a daytime profession, but now it's off with the glasses and on with the cape if they let him... ... on his throne and a lone microphone. There's no place like home to sing his songs. You can sing along if you want, but don't get him wrong, the karaoke legend always aims for perfection. It might take him an hour just to make a selection! The karaoke legend's got all our attention, and he knows how it goes now there's no need for your intervention. He don't do duets, and won't till he's met the woman who gets the notes that he hits. But he might just tease some golden oldies, bring you to your knees with sweet harmonies in any keys that you please. The karaoke legend makes quite an impression of Harrison, Nilsson, McCartney and Lennon. The karaoke legend gives his own stage directions. Now he's craning his neck, will you check out his facial expressions! A karaoke legend with Lone Ranger's abandon, yeah he brought down the house then he bounced, we had no chance to thank him. And we oughta thank him.

Buncha Bands 02:40
I had the perfect idea for a band name, see: "Special Guests," featuring me. Then I googled it to see if it was taken. Everything's taken from the taken, and it don't make no difference anyhow. So I'm starting a buncha bands starting now. Well should I pay the Buddha a poetic license fee cause he said "we are energy"? Yeah I googled it to see if it was taken. Everything's taken, and for the taking. It's what we will not what they will allow. So I'm starting a buncha bands, I'm starting a buncha bands starting now. Yeah I'm starting now. There's a music celebration and it's name will be "Hoagiefest," featuring me! Don't you tell me that it's taken, cause everything taken is for the taking. And I don't need no WaWa way no how, cause I'm starting a buncha bands. I'm starting a buncha bands, man. I'm starting a buncha bands starting now. Yeah I'm starting now.

You got your bounce around people, got your stick around people, one's rubber, one's glue. Without the bounce around people all the stick around people never meet nobody new. Without the stick around people who are the bounce around people gonna bounce around to? I'm a bounce around people, need to stick around people like you. You got your bounce around people, got your stick around people, it's plain to see that all the bounce around people need the stick around people for security and all the stick around people need the bounce around people so they'll feel free. I'm glad you bounce around people like to stick around people like me.
